A Haven For Heroes
On the southern edge of Fayette County, outside the hustle and bustle of city life in Lexington, you'll find beautiful rolling hills where horses graze and bluegrass grows. Out in this peaceful setting, you'll also find a plot of land which offers a place of rest and retreat for those who give so freely of themselves to make our cities and communities safe and secure.
A Vision Birthed Out of Gratitude
For many years, it was the dream of a small group in Lexington to establish a place which would provide the first responder community in Central Kentucky a place nearby where they and their families could escape the constant grind of caring for the community to be cared for themselves. The life of a first responder is one of sacrifice and often goes unnoticed and unappreciated. That will not be the case at Camp Shelby. Here, heroes are celebrated, uplifted, cared for and loved.
Those Who Support Need Support
Statistics tell us that those in first response service face an alarming amount of stress, dealing with long shifts, constantly coming face to face with life and death scenarios, facing great risk themselves. Families of first responders feel the weight of this risk every day as well. Camp Shelby provides a place where these families can gather, connect, play, unwind, refresh, recharge and heal.
You Can Help Care For Those Who Care
Camp Shelby continues to develop its property just off Shelby Lane, near Shelby Creek in Fayette County. Work is in process for tent sites, cabins, adventure course, axe throwing, walking & horse riding trails and more. Our recent partnership with Life Adventure Center has enabled us to begin serving our heroes through offsite Camp Shelby XL Overnight Experiences. Camp Shelby is a non-profit effort and fundraising efforts are still underway as we seek donors and partners who come along side and share in this worthy vision.
